Surf Fishing Special

Though not as popular as other types of fishing, surf fishing can be one of the most challenging and rewarding types of fishing. Surf fishing is almost always best in early morning, late evening, or after dark. On sand beaches fish are rarely active during the day because the beach offers no cover. For this reason it is tailor made for this book and a couple of quick tips could not be forgotten!

What Kind Of Fish You Can Expect, And Where Are They?

Striped Bass, Red Drum, Bluefish, California Corbina, Florida Pompano, surf perches, croakers, kingfish, and weakfish are common catches. Most of them like to lie just beyond the bars or in the inshore sloughs where they can catch the food stirred up by breaking waves.

Finding The Sloughs

Bars located off the beaches cause swells to steepen sharply, then break. Inshore sloughs can be located by a flattening of the waves and by the slightly darker color of the water. A natural cut through a bar leading into a slough is an outstanding spot.
